Andrea Stokes started Swahlee with a desire for social change for women in India. Through her work in international community development, she recognized an opportunity to improve education and economic possibilities for girls who are often susceptible to abuse and exploitation. The need for safe and fair employment became even more apparent when Andrea worked with an aftercare home for trafficked girls, who could potentially be exploited again as adults. Aptly named Swahlee, meaning girl in the local community, is dedicated to providing safe and ethical employment for young women.
All Swahlee products offered by Hill + House come from The Remnants Collection. We admire and proudly promote the use repurposed scrap and surplus fabrics in their reusable napkins, packing bags, and gift wrapping cloths in this collection. Swahlee cleverly terms them "Beauty from Pieces".
